How Syntron Dewatering Screens Work
Unlike conventional sizing screens, dewatering screens are specifically designed to remove free water from bulk materials.
Material is fed onto an horizontal screen deck where vibration separates water from solids. Water passes through the screen media while the conveyed material forms a dense bed that helps retain valuable product particles.
The result is a drier final product that is easier to convey, stockpile, transport, and process while minimizing product loss.
Whether processing sand, aggregate, coal, industrial minerals, or recycled materials, efficient dewatering can improve the performance of the entire operation.
More Than Moisture Removal
A dewatering screen does much more than simply remove water.
By reducing free moisture before conveying, stockpiling, loading, or additional processing, operations can improve efficiency throughout the material handling process.
Benefits can include:
- Improved material flow
- Reduced conveyor carryback
- Less material buildup
- Lower transportation costs
- Improved product consistency
- Reduced impact on downstream equipment
- Lower maintenance requirements
- Increased operational efficiency

Common Applications
Syntron dewatering screens are used across a wide range of industries where efficient moisture removal is critical to product quality and operational performance.
Aggregates & Sand
Produce cleaner, drier aggregate and sand products while improving stockpile management, material handling, and transportation efficiency.
Mining & Minerals
Remove excess moisture from mined materials before further processing, conveying, storage, or shipment.
For demanding mining applications, Syntron's capabilities extend beyond the dewatering screen itself. Syntron can engineer dewatering as part of a more complete system incorporating additional equipment and advanced controls to meet the specific requirements of the operation.
Coal Processing & Underground Mining
In underground mining applications, dewatering is often more than a single equipment function—it is part of a dynamic material handling system.
Syntron has developed dewatering solutions that can combine dewatering screens, mineral processing screws, and direct-drive VFD controls with Direct Torque Control (DTC). This approach provides greater control of equipment speed and torque than traditional belt-and-sheave drive arrangements.
Controls can also be integrated with mine monitoring systems, allowing the dewatering equipment to respond to changing operating conditions and helping create a more coordinated dewatering process.
For customers requiring a more complete solution, Syntron can provide the engineering, equipment, controls, and system integration needed to address the application as a whole.
Industrial Minerals
Improve product consistency while preparing materials for storage, packaging, transportation, or additional processing.
Recycling
Recover valuable materials while reducing excess moisture prior to further separation or processing.
Chemical Processing
Improve moisture control, material flow, and handling characteristics for a variety of processing applications.
Why Moisture Reduction Matters
Removing excess moisture can positively impact nearly every stage of material processing.
Lower moisture levels can help reduce:
- Conveyor carryback
- Material buildup
- Transfer point maintenance
- Stockpile management issues
- Transportation costs
- Equipment wear
- Product loss
- Unplanned downtime
By improving downstream handling and processing, effective dewatering can deliver value well beyond the screen itself.
From Dewatering Screen to Complete Dewatering System
For applications requiring more than standalone screening equipment, Syntron has the capability to engineer a more complete dewatering solution.
Depending on the application, a Syntron dewatering system may incorporate:
- Dewatering screens
- Mineral processing screws
- Direct-drive VFD controls
- Direct Torque Control (DTC)
- Integration with mine monitoring and control systems
- Application-specific automation and controls
This systems approach is particularly valuable in underground mining environments where material conditions and water loads can change continuously. Rather than treating each component independently, Syntron can engineer the equipment and controls to work together as part of the overall process.
Syntron continues to evaluate advanced dewatering technologies and automation opportunities that can further improve system control, responsiveness, and performance.
